3. Paul Zaloom, FF Alumn, special FF discount for puppet spectacle at PS122, Jan 3-12.
TWO WEEKS ONLY!
Mighty Nice! -
a new puppet spectacle by Paul Zaloom
Fri-Sun, Jan 3- Jan. 5
Wed-Sun, Jan 8-12
8:30 p.m. Sundays at 5 p.m.
$20; USE THIS SECRET PASSWORD for discount $17 ticket: "PRESTO CHANGE-O"
Legendary surrealist/political satirist/puppeteer Paul Zaloom unleashes his latest solo extravaganza, MIGHTY NICE, a work in three parts: "THE PUNCH AND JIMMY SHOW", a gay update of the classic "Punch and Judy"; "DON'T", a mock D.A.R.E anti-drug presentation hosted by an intense state cop and his drug addled, life-sized dummy, Billy; and "2222", a frenetic, apocalyptic, and hysterical sci-fi vision of what the world will be like in the year 2222.
Zaloom uses his weapon of choice, humor, to disarm and encourage, to melt the pessimism away, and to hurt the face from way too much laughter.
"Paul Zaloom is a wildly creative, stupendously resourceful performance artist" Time Out New York

4. Fiona Templeton, William Pope.L, FF Alumns, receive Foundation For Contemporary Performance Arts Grants, 2002
On December 9th, the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts announced awards of nearly $300,000. Ten grants of $20,000 each were awarded to artists in the United States and abroad. Because of economic circumstances, grant amounts and the total budget decreased from 2001. Selected by the Directors and members of the arts community from nominations submitted by noted artists and arts professionals, this year's recipients in Theater/Performance Art were both Franklin Furnace Alumns, William Pope.L. of Lewiston, Maine and Fiona Templeton of New York City.
Founded and guided
by artists, the Foundation's mission is to encourage, sponsor, and promote innovative
work in the arts created and presented by individuals, groups, and organizations.
Artists working in dance, music, theater/performance art, poetry, and the visual
arts are awarded nonrestrictive grants for projects of their own choosing by
a nomination process; arts organizations receive project or general operating
support by application. Since the Foundation's inception in 1963, hundreds of
artists have donated work to raise funds for these grants. The current Directors
of the Foundation are: Brooke Alexander, Jasper Johns, Julian Lethbridge, Phill
Niblock, and John Silberman. They were joined in the selection process by theater
artist John Jesurun, musicologist Laura Kuhn, and performer Valda Setterfield.
