Workshop is based on the book THE PLAYFUL WAY TO SERIOUS WRITING by Roberta Allen, being published by Houghton Mifflin in fall 2002. Roberta expands the unique writing method used in her previous guide, FAST FICTION, invented for her students at The New School, Columbia, & NYU.

She offers an exciting fun-filled way to tap creativity, end writing blocks, and be as free as you've always wanted to be, just by following your energy and going wherever it leads you. The 'energy method' allows you to instantly tap into your creative energy and get your words flowing on paper without interruption. It allows you to bypass the inner critic and lose yourself like a child in the magic of creating. All it takes is a timer to concentrate your energy and a topic or image to focus your attention. This method, which uses photographs and drawings as well as verbal cues, can be used to do any kind of creative writing - stories, novels, personal essays, memoirs, creative nonfiction, performance pieces, plays, sketches, scenes - you name it!
