Circus Celebrates 10th Anniversary! CIRCUS AMOK
** Coming to a Park or Community Garden Near You **

“ a one ring hodgepodge of goofy antics and and irreverent politics... all done in the spirit of rec room fun” -- New York Magazine

“low rent razzle dazzle...Amok gives the old tried-and-true circus bits some edge” -- Village Voice

This summer, Obie and Bessie Award Winning Circus Amok will celebrate its 10th anniversary of presenting annual urban circuses. Beginning June 8th, this unusual collection of performers will offer free shows in Riverside Park, Fort Greene Park, Tompkins Square Park, Socrates Sculpture Park, and other public spaces. This “17-act-in-59-minutes” extravaganza juggles political satire (including the coming Senate race), New York history, and traditional circus slapstick. Presented by P.S. 122, it is completely free and open to the public -- and perfect for adults and children of all ages.

Circus Amok is a one-of-a-kind, gender-bending, free associating, schtick driven, star-studded circus. Directed by the unstoppable “bearded lady” Jennif er Miller, this troupe of jugglers, stilt walkers, divas, and acrobats balances danger with laughter, politics with punchlines. This year’s circus features Scotty Heron, Rachel Kramer, Osmany Tellez,Yael Teplow, Noel Kalom, and Michael Preston in the main ring; fanciful sets and colorful costumes by Alessandra Nichols, Jonathan Berger, Scott Heron, and Laura Helton and sketches written by Mady Shutzman and Sarah Schulman.

The troupe is accompanied by the blasting, percussive sounds of the Circus Amok band, under the baton of Jenny Romaine. Playing a variety of musical styles from klezmer to funk to folk will be: Terry Dame, Mary Feaster, Steve Berman, Lisa Frisari, and Ben Meyer.
