CALLING ALL GIRLS! Come be an honorary Guerrilla Girl for a day!
The Guerrilla Girls will be present on June 4, 2000 at the 54th Annual Tony Awards to put a spotlight on racism and sexism on Broadway. In our second appearance outside the awards, we will be singing, chanting and passing out our latest poster making fun of the long history of discrimination in the theatre world.
This year we are inviting any and all women, children and men who would like to fight discrimination in the theatre world to join us and be Guerrilla’s for a day. The Girls will be on the steps of Saint Patrick’s Catherdal, 5th avenue between 50th and 51st, on June 4th at 4:15PM. We will be distributing “masks” and copies of our latest poster to all who show up and then marching on to Radio City Music Hall (51st and 6th) to greet the Tony Award nominees
The Tony Awards are presented by The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc., and the American Theatre Wing. Since 1947 over 100 awards have been given to Broadway directors. Here are some more statistics:

The Guerrilla Girls are an anonymous, collaborative group of women artists, writers, performers, film makers and arts professionals. As feminist counterparts to the mostly male traditions of anonymous do-gooders like Robin Hood, Batman and the Lone Ranger, we wear gorilla masks and each of us takes on the pseudonym of a dead woman artist. We do this to ensure that our efforts focus strictly on the issues rather than on our own personalities. We have traveled the world telling our story and passing on our tactics to kindred spirits who consider themselves Guerrilla Girls too.
Since 1985 we have made over 70 posters and printed projects and have staged actions that humorously state the facts about the art world. In 1997 we decided that it was time to tackle the long history of discrimination in the theatre. We moved from postering outside art galleries to stickering inside the bathrooms of theatres.
