ART MEETS THE INTERNET
CYBERSTUDIO ANNOUNCES FALL SEASON OF
LIVE FROM DOWNTOWN
"The New Immigrant Series" - November 19 - December 10

DCTV is pleased to announce the fall line up for its new hit performing arts television show Live From Downtown, the only interactive television show that merges TV broadcasting with streaming media technology to bring emerging and established performing artists straight into peoples living rooms! Live From Downtown is cablecast live on MNN channel 34 and cybercast on www.DCTVNY.org. Mondays at 9:30pm, November 19 - December 10, 2001. Live From Downtown, which premiered last April, grew out of DCTV's desire to broaden audience support for the New York performance scene and expand the dialogue on the arts to new voices.

The fall line up, Live From Downtown, The New Immigrant Series, -- features four foreign born New Yorkers who have developed, and honed their unique artistic voices in their adopted city: Afghani classical musician Quraishi, Chinese choreographer Yin Mei, Brazilian-born dancer-choreographer Patricia Hoffbauer and Senegalese sculptor and musician, Ousmane Gueye. The timing for The New Immigrant Series couldn't be more appropriate. As New Yorkers struggle to maintain a sense of normalcy in their daily lives during these trying times, immigrant New Yorkers have the added a stress of being ostracized because of their differences. The New Immigrant Series will showcase and celebrate the work of these artists while discussing cultural identity, assimilation, life in a new country, and the quest for artistic freedom of expression.

Each episode consists of three basic components: a live performance, a documentary created by DCTVs Emmy Award-winning staff and the unique live interactive Q&A between the featured artist, the show's live studio audience and the public internet audience. Any viewer with an Internet connection can become part of the show by asking questions of the performers, making comments on the performance, and chatting with Live From Downtown's chat jockey. Cyber-audience members with Web-cameras can also wire into the studio and become part of the cablecast themselves!

Live From Downtown is cablecast live on MNN channel 34 to over 500,00 homes throughout New York and cybercast on www.dctvny.org to countless homes nationwide. By bringing these fresh artists to new audiences through cable-TV and the Internet, and especially by giving that new audience a chance to question the how and why of the artists work, DCTV hopes to broaden the base of support for the New York performance scene while expanding the dialogue on the arts to new voices. For more information and to become a member of the live studio audience call 212-966-4510 ext. 411.
