Chapter V presents works that employ beauty as a restorer of a fleeting object of desire; and artifice that is fabricated to replace that which is ephemeral. Time, a fractured eternity, is reconstituted by an attempt at permanence. The exhibition examines representations of seduction and desire. Representation signals, by definition, an absence; and seduction is a game that is only satisfied by its own continuous perpetuation.
A conceptual shift lies in the strategies of making these works, their emphasis is not primarily placed on the transmission of information but on how meaning is felt. Chapter V is organized by Julie Baranes, independent curator from Paris, and Alejandro Cesarco, artist and curator from Montevideo. Both currently reside in New York.
A small catalogue
will accompany the exhibition.
Receptions wines Bouchard Père & Fils.
